salafism
There are many misconceptions surrounding the salafi methodology. Firstly, salafi is not a group, it is a manhaj (methodology). It means to follow the Quran and Sunnah according to the understanding of the salaf (first three generations of Muslims after Muhammed SAW) they were the closest to him, understood his teachings best and he declared them the best of generations. He also said they and those who follow them are the group that are saved from Hellfire. Thus every seeker of the truth should consider the salafi method and think about it. The prophet Muhammed (saw) said, 'the muslims will break up into 73 sects, all leading to the Hellfire except one, the path that my companions and I are on' just like there is only one religion that leads to Heaven, there is only one group who claim to follow that religion that leads to Heaven, and that group are the salaf and those who follow them. Other common names for Salafis these days are Wahabis and Ahle Hadith. These are not different groups but different names attributed to the group described above
